While at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, he held the chair of Professor Endowed Clifton, served as director of a research office of mixed methods, he founded SAGE Journal of Mixed Methods Research, and was an added professor of family medicine at the University of Michigan and a consultant for the research
    center of health care services of Veterans. He was a senior Fulbright Scholar in South Africa in 2008 and Thailand in 2012. In 2011, he co-led a national working group on the practices of mixed methods at the National Health Institutes, served as a visiting professor at the Harvard Public Health School, and received an honorary doctorate at the University of
    Pretoria, South Africa. In 2014, he was presidentthe International Association of Mixed Methods Research. In 2015, he joined family medical staff at the University of Michigan.
