Background
PCA’s history can be traced back over 150 years; and over that time, PCA has built a strong people and
customer focused culture. PCA is the third largest producer of containerboard and corrugated products in
North America. We have approximately 15,000 employees, with operations primarily in the United States.
PCA’s Packaging segment includes six containerboard mills and 94 converting operations.
In 2012, PCA redesigned and repositioned its employee survey from one emphasizing loyalty to one

focused on employee engagement. Working with a 3 party research partner/expert, PCA conducts it’s
employee engagement survey every 2 years.
Due to limited computer access during working hours by our plant employees, the employee engagement
survey is a paper based survey. PCA prints and distributes the survey to all of the participating plants, and
mails the survey to non-plant based employees’ homes. After taking the survey, employees deposit their
survey in tamper resistant collection boxes or mail surveys using pre-addressed envelopes. All surveys

are returned to our 3 party partner/expert for scanning, data tabulation, analysis, and reporting.

Objectives
PCA is requesting proposals from pre-qualified employee engagement research organizations to assist in:
Project management and survey administration
Response tabulation
Results analysis, reporting, interpretation and presentation
Providing thought leadership on best practices, industry trends, and survey design as necessary
Action planning

Measure employee engagement and the key drivers of engagement
Give employees a voice with an opportunity to establish and improve two-way communication
Increase employee engagement by ensuring that results lead to action
Maintain and improve employee retention
Link employee engagement to critical business outcomes (e.g. growth, profitability, productivity, safety,
absenteeism, and retention)
Link employee engagement to customer engagement
Benchmark results against Best-in-Class companies and other manufacturers
