                                Academic Scholarship Application

              The Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo (HLSR) provided the first Go Texan scholarship to an FFA
              member in Lee County in 1972.  The Lee County Go Texan Committee (LCGT) was formed in 1974.
              Subsequently, through the efforts of the HLSR and the Lee County Go Texan Committee, along with
              the support of the Lee County community, there has been over $997,000 in scholarship funds
              provided to Lee County youth.  The Lee County Go Texan Committee will again present scholarships
              to selected graduating seniors of Lee County high schools wanting to continue their education.
              ELIGIBILITY:
                    Applicants must:
                    1)      Have attended a high school in Lee County for two or more consecutive years.
                    2)      Be a graduating senior of a high school in Lee County.
                    3)      Submit a completed LCGT scholarship application before April 1, 2021.
                    4)      Have letters of recommendation from 2 non-family members familiar with the
                            applicant, one being a teacher or counselor.

                    5)      Be enrolled full-time in a Texas college or university by August 31 of the year of
                            application.  Full time enrollment is defined as a minimum of 12 credit hours per
                            semester.
              CRITERIA USED FOR SCORING APPLICATION:
                    1)     Demonstrated academic ability--Class Ranking and GPA
                    2)     Performance in all areas of life (school and community activities and achievements)
                    3)     Financial limitations
                    4)     Goal orientation (Essay)
                    5)     Letters of recommendation
              SCHOLARSHIP PAYMENT:
                    1)     Scholarship funds will be disbursed over four semesters

                    2)     Requests to receive payment must be received by September 15 for the Fall
                                                  th
                           semester and February 15 for the Spring semester. Late requests will not be accepted
                    3)     Payment requests must include copies of transcript from prior semester, upcoming
                           class schedule and tuition receipt
                    4)     Scholarship is forfeited if not enrolled full-time for two consecutive semesters

           SCHOLARSHIPS TO BE AWARDED:
           Lee County Go Texan intends to award Academic Scholarships as follows:
                 One for $ 5,000
                 Five for $2,500 each
                 Eight for $ 1,000 each
           IMPORTANT:
              ▪  Applicants receiving the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo Area Go Texan Scholarship
                 will not be eligible to receive a Lee County Go Texan Scholarship.
              ▪  Scholarship recipient and parent(s) are highly encouraged to attend the Lee County Go Texan
                 Fundraiser in September for recognition.
           Completed applications must be turned in to your school counselor before April
           1st. Applications will be picked up from the counselor by a Lee County Go Texan

           Incomplete applications or late submissions will not be accepted.
