     How embedded Sport for Social Change in 
     Community Safety arena 
                           Background
       Using Sport as a tool to engage at risk young people – Sport for social 
        change.  
       Part of the national programme funded via Home Office 2002 – 2013 (1 of 
        2 projects in Wales).
       Delivered via local authority sports development dept from 2002 – 2015 
        (March).
       Locally sourced funding 2013 – Gwent Police Crime Commissioner.
       Newport LIVE established in April 2015 as a not for profit company limited 
        by guarantee and a registered UK charity – replacing LA Sport & Leisure.
       Programme delivered via Newport LIVE – hub centre and responsible for 
        regional roll out of programme.

                            Objectives
       Ensure all young people have the opportunity to take part in Sport 
        and physical activity.
       Provide positive alternatives to Anti-social Behaviour for young 
        people living in deprived communities across Newport and Gwent.
       Provide local provision at minimal or no cost for participants.
       Offer voluntary and leadership opportunities.
       Offer qualifications and accreditations to young people interested.
       Provide role models and support packages for young people at risk.  
       Help communities to be safer places.
