                                          SOCCER – FUN FACTS
     Earliest versions of soccer can be traced back 3,000 years.The captain of the losing team 
      would be sacrificed to the  gods!
     The game was further developed in England in the 12th century where games that resembled 
      football were played on  meadows and roads
     Soccer is the most popular game in the world, being played in 200+ countries and by 
      over 250 million people  worldwide.
     The modern soccer ball has 20 hexagonal and 12 pentagonal surfaces. When they are sewn 
      together and inflated they  make a near perfect sphere. The black spots on the ball help 
      players to perceive any swerve and the contrast helps  television viewers follow the play

     Great FITNESS - in one game it is common for a player to run approximately 9.6km 
      or the equivalent of  running back and forth on a basketball game 350 times.
     GOOD FOR ALL: it’s FUN, affordable, accessible, gender-neutral, life-long health and 
      fitness options, preferred  sport for first-generation Canadians
     STAY IN THE GAME: 70% of kids stop playing organized sport after age 13 or about 
      G8… Yet, 85% of  Canadians believe sport participation builds stronger communities...
