Challenging; styles
• Accommodating - neglect own concerns to satisfy the other person
• Avoiding - don’t immediately pursue own concerns or those of the
other person or address the conflict
• Collaborating - attempt to work together to find a solution that
satisfies both parties
• Competing -pursuit of own concerns at the other person’s expense,
using whatever power to win
• Compromising - find a mutually acceptable solution that partially
satisfies both parties
Style
• We may all choose to avoid
confrontation or be overly
accommodating in order to
avoid awkwardness
• Equally being too challenging or
confrontational can lead to
unpleasantness
