     Introduction
     • UNIDO is the specialized agency of the United Nations that promotes industrial 
      development for poverty reduction, inclusive globalization and environmental 
      sustainability.
     • UNIDO’s mission is to promote and accelerate 
      inclusive and sustainable industrial development (ISID) in developing countries 
      and economies in transition.
     • UNIDO’s mandate is fully recognized in SDG-9, which calls to “Build resilient 
      infrastructure, promote inclusive and sustainable industrialization and foster 
      innovation”.
     • UNIDO’s four enabling functions are:
       • Technical Cooperation; 
       • Analytical and research functions & policy advisory services; 
       • Normative functions, standards and quality-related activities; 
       • Convening and partnerships for knowledge transfer, 
       • networking and industrial cooperation

     Ongoing Projects in Pakistan
     • Subcontracting and Partnership Exchange(SPX) Centre in Pakistan
       • SPX Pakistan supports local enterprises to successfully meet the challenges of 
         globalization and to take advantage of emerging industrial subcontracting, 
         outsourcing and supply chain opportunities.
       • 230 enterprise profiles uploaded on the SPX Management Information 
         System, 32 companies received SPX Benchmarking services, 25 buyers 
         supported by SPX to realize their local content strategies and 10 
         matchmakings in the automotive sector have been facilitated .
     • Sustainable Energy Initiative for Industries in Pakistan
       • The goal of this UNIDO/GEF Project is to avoid greenhouse gas (GHG) 
         emissions by developing and promoting a market environment stimulating 
         investments in projects related to Renewable Energy/Energy Efficiency .
       • The project will help in developing policy regulatory framework on RE/EE, 
         Capacity development , energy surveys, implementing Energy Management 
         Systems and pilot projects for demonstration and replication

     Ongoing Projects in Pakistan
     • Global Cleantech Innovation Programme for SMEs and Startups in Pakistan
       • UNIDO is managing Global Cleantech Innovation Programme  (GCIP) , which is 
         a global competition aimed at promotion & commercialization of Innovations 
         in the area of Clean Technologies in Pakistan.
       • Main aim of this competition is to foster innovations in Renewable energy, 
         Energy Efficiency, Water Efficiency, Waste to Energy and Green Building.
     • Mainstreaming Climate Change Adaptation through Water Resource 
      Management in the Leather industry in Sialkot
       • The project would help in shifting of tanneries located in and around city of 
         Sialkot to centralized location and to provide various facilities like Common 
         Effluent Treatment Plant, Solid Waste Disposal Site and Common Effluent 
         Collection System, all of which would ensure an effective water management 
         system for urban development plan.

     • Cluster Development Initiative: A way forward for economic growth
       • UNIDO to support Punjab government and in particular PSIC to strengthen its 
         support services to industrial clusters in order to foster their collective 
         performance and capacity to penetrate global and regional markets.
       • Key objectives of the project are :
          • Driving productivity and competitiveness improvements through key 
           established Punjab export focused SME manufacturing clusters.
          • Building the support infrastructure that underpins collaborative and 
           strategic industry activity.
          • To address the comparative shortcomings i.e. costly factors of production, 
           quality and delivery inefficiencies, lack of demand driven export 
           strategies.
