Rate your handwriting • Do you think your handwriting is clear and legible (easy to read)? • Why might this be important? • Watch the following clip on calligraphy to kick off your handwriting journey! Make sure you use a grip that is comfortable for your hand. Here are some common examples. Which grip do you use?! Handwriting Practice Exercises Parallel Lines • First, fill a page up with parallel lines. Focus on keeping them parallel and the same length. A common problem is letters tilting different ways: some can be straight, others lean backwards, and others lunge forward. By practising these lines, you can learn to keep down strokes parallel to one another. Horizontal Lines • After filling a few pages with vertical lines, switch to horizontal lines next. Try to fit three horizontal lines on each line of the paper while focusing on making the lines parallel and the same length. This exercise will help you maintain control of your pen. Clouds • The third exercise is more difficult than it looks - you basically want to create little clouds. Try to make each set of clouds fit inside a line. This will help you form curves and keep letters the same height as other letters.
