   Committee
   • Meets monthly
   • Comprised of Medical and Lay members – about 15 in all
   • Term of appointment 5 years renewable
   • Required to undertake induction course and 5 hours training per 
    annum. Equality and Diversity training every 5 years.
   • Voluntary and unpaid
   • Chairman appointed centrally and serves for 5 years.
    Proposals reviewed
    • All sorts of Research Proposals including those for higher degrees
    • Specialist Committees also consider
     • CTIMP
     • Biobank approvals
     • Research Databases
     • Tissue banks
   Pathway
   • Online submission of projects
   • Form and other documents considered by HRA staff and clarification 
    sought if necessary
   • Project reviewed by Approvals Specialist who checks that project 
    conforms to expected standards and produces report on 
    organisational issues relating to submission.
   • All projects reviewed by entire Committee but 2 people lead on the 
    discussion on each submission
   Committee Meetings
   • Each Project is discussed in turn (6 projects per meeting)
   • All members make individual points and Chairman decides what 
    questions should be addressed by the researchers
   • Researchers where possible are interviewed, asked these and any 
    supplementary questions and invited to ask the committee questions
   • When the researchers have left the Committee have further 
    discussion  and make a decision
