IPCC Inventory Software
As described in the "output locations" section of the user guide, the IPCC Inventory Software is the default platform used for the calculation of greenhouse gas emissions when using a Tier 1 methodology as per the IPCC's 2006 Guidelines for National Greenhouse Gas Inventories, it also has the capacity for the calculation of emissions using a Tier 2 methodology for some sectors and sub-sectors. Here, the IPCC Inventory Software is recommended as the primary GHG emission calculation platform.
Data input | |||||||||||
The data collection template is set-up for the simple input of two main types of activity data: 1. Activity data (fuel consumption) 2. Sub-sector proportion Fuel consumption is the principle activity data, the user then inputs the proportion of each fuel used in each sub-sector. The template then calculates the net fuel consumption in each sub-sector which can then be inputted straight into the IPCC Inventory Software as shown below. |
|||||||||||
2. Sub-sector proportion | Output values
The data input sheet allows the user to input the annual national fuel consumption. Data should be inputted in terajoules (TJ) or gigagrammes (Gg) as these are the units used in the IPCC software. | Fuels can be consumed in multiple sectors, for example motor gasoline will primarily be used in the road transportation sub-sector but can also be used in outboard motors in the water-borne navigation sub-sector. The template allows the user to enter estimates of what proportion of each fuel is used in each sub-sector. | The template takes the inputted fuel consumption for each fuel and multiplies it by the proportion inputted for each sub-sector and gives the user the fuel consumed in that sub-sector. These values can then be taken and inputted into the IPCC software to calculate the GHG emissions for these subs-sectors.
