Sheet 1: Welcome

Welcome to the electronic spreadsheet version for the ACCA

abridged version (ae) of Manual N, 5th Edition (N5) -- Commercial Load Calculations, 2008

A thorough understanding of N5 Part 1 (Basic Manual N Procedures) as well as a working knowledge of Microsoft

Excel are prerequisites for using this spreadsheet.

To minimize data entry, this spreadsheet uses revised versions of the printed N5ae worksheets.

The tab labeled Database must be populated with building component information that is commonly

used in your construction market. This information will then be used as various lookup tables in the

GlassI, SkylightI, DoorI, WallI, CeilingI and FloorI tabs. Use the printed N5 book as the

information source for the required values.

Use the printed N5 manual for guidance to enter information into the InternalI, DuctsI, InfiltrationI

and VentilationI tabs.

You can now populate the header portion of the N1 Form and the six Input Tabs to create default

templates to minimize data selection for future Manual N load calculations.

Microsoft Excel version 97 is the minimum requirement to use the spreadsheet but Microsoft

Excel version 2000 or greater is recommended to utilize the full features of the spreadsheet.

We strongly suggest that you print out and read the instructions on using this electronic spreadsheet

that are contained in the following Help tab.

This spreadsheet can be downloaded from the ACCA System Design website.

number is listed on Notes tab.

Help Section

Refer to Manual N Load Calculations for Low-Rise Commercial Buildings, Fifth Edition Version 1.xx

Step 1: Go to the Form N1 tab and select your default design state and city .

Step 2: Go to the Database tab and enter the building components used most frequently in your geographic and market area.

The items entered here can be selected later from a custom list of your component inputs reducing the time to sort

thru hundreds of possible choices that may never be used in your area. The database can have items added or

changed as the need arises. Note: Database entries must correspond to the design conditions selected in step 1.

Important: The Construction Number must always be included and precede the description for the Database entries

Glass Database

Enter construction numbers 1 thru 7 and 10 from tables 2A & 2C

Enter a description that corresponds to the construction number

Enter the frame construction that corresponds to the construction number

Enter the U-Value that corresponds to the construction number and frame type

Enter the SHGC that corresponds to the construction number and frame type

Skylights Database

Enter construction numbers 8 and 9 from table 2A

Enter a description that corresponds to the construction number

Enter the frame construction that corresponds to the construction number

Enter the Ueff that corresponds to the construction number and frame type

Enter the SHGC that corresponds to the construction number and frame type

Doors Database

Enter construction number 11 from table 4A

Enter a description that corresponds to the construction number

Enter the U-Value that corresponds to the construction number

Walls Database

Enter construction numbers 12 thru 15 from table 4A

Enter a description that corresponds to the construction number

Enter the U-Value that corresponds to the construction number

Enter the Group Code that corresponds to the construction number

Ceilings Database

Enter construction numbers 16 thru 18 from table 4A

Enter a description that corresponds to the construction number

Enter the U-Value that corresponds to the construction number

Enter the Group Code that corresponds to the construction number

Floors Database

Enter construction numbers 19 thru 22 from table 4A

Enter a description that corresponds to the construction number

Enter the U-Value or F-Value that corresponds to the construction number

Enter the PTDH if applicable that corresponds to the construction number

Enter the PTDC, CLTD or Group Code if applicable that corresponds to the construction number

Notes:

Construction numbers 19 thru 21 uses U-Value

Construction number 22 uses F-Value

Construction number 19 uses PTDC

Construction number 20A uses CLTD

Construction number 20B uses Group Code

Step 3: Save the spreadsheet now with a unique name(s) that will be used as your template to start a new load

calculation. (Example: MN5 Nashville TN 05NOV07.xls) You can create as many templates as needed

for possible different design conditions or construction methods.

Step 4: Now you are ready to start a new load calculation. Open the saved template from Step 3 and fill out the header portion

of the Form N1 tab.

Note: All Yellow cells are for data entry, Blue cells contain formulas, and Green cells contain descriptive text.

Enter the Project Name, Square Feet and Above Grade Volume of conditioned space

The default indoor design conditions are pre-set but may be changed

Select the Design Hour of Day

Step 5: From the Form N1 you can select the Lookup hyperlink to go to the component input screen to select and enter your

construction types and values. From the input screens you can select the Return to Form N1 hyperlink to go back to

the Form N1.

Glass Input: Enter the type of glass, quantity, direction, dimensions, internal shading, adjustments and overhang adjustments

Skylight Input: Enter the type of skylight, direction, net square feet and tilt angle

Door Input: Enter the type of door direction, net square feet and color

Wall Input: Enter the type of wall, direction, net square feet and color

Partition Wall Input: Enter the type of wall, net square feet, PTDH and PTDC

Ceiling Input: Enter the type of ceiling, net square feet and color

Floor Input: Enter the type of floor and square feet.

Slab Floor Input: Enter the type of floor and linear feet

Internal Input:

Lights: Enter the quantity, watts and diversity factor

Occupants: Enter the quantity, activity level and diversity factor

Office Equipment: Enter the quantity, name plate watts or BTUH, any latent values and diversity factor

Plants: Enter the quantity and size

Blower Heat: Select blow thru or draw thru and if additional return fan if applicable

Ducts Input: Enter the type of duct system, insulation, leakage class, installed square feet of surface area or default of 1 and

estimated heating and cooling ambient temperatures for specific duct location

Infiltration Input: Enter the levels of exposure and tightness

Ventilation Input: Enter the type of ventilation and corresponding value

Return to the Form N1 to verify your entries and results. If acceptable proceed to Step 6

Step 6: Select File and Save As and replace the current file name with a unique file name for this load calculation.

(Example: John Smith New Residence) You may want to create a file folder on the hard drive to store your load

calculations in the event to need to re-call the load calculation for review or revisions.

(Example: MN5 Loads)
