General Pitching Tips • Create a compelling story and practice, practice, practice!!! • Be concise and confident. • Do not use notecards. Do not read from slides. • Do your research! Understand the problem, target market, and competition. • Use powerful images and charts over words and text. • Talk with the audience, not at them. You want them to trust, believe in, and relate to you. Problem • This slide should clearly articulate the problem that you are trying to solve. • You should have data and information to prove that this problem is real and compelling. • Your statement should also relate the problem to your target audience. Think of answering the question: If this problem is never solved, then so what? Solution • How are you going to solve this problem? • Why is this a unique approach? • What are the details of the product/service that you offer? • How does it solve this problem? • See the Value Proposition section of the Business Model Canvas for guidance in describing the unique value your idea provides. • Use the Key Partnerships, Activities, and Resources sections of the Canvas to help you describe your solution. Target Market • Who is affected by this problem? • How many people are in this group? • How does the problem affect their lives? • How are they currently managing the problem (without your solution)? • What type of people do you plan to focus on? Who are they (age, ethnicity, geographic location, income, preferences, family values, beliefs, etc.)? • See the Customer Segments section of the Business Model Canvas for guidance. Competition • Who else is trying to solve this problem? • How are they doing it? • How will you do better or differently? • Leverage the Value Proposition section of the Business Model Canvas to show how you deliver more or better value than your competitors.
