Roof slope is 5/12. Therefore, the roof angle is 22.6 degrees [ tan q = 5/12].



Length of top plate at top of gable wall can be calculated using cosine function [ cos 22.6 = 6/L].




L=6/(cos 22.6)



L=6.5ft Use a full 8ft length for each.
