Abstract
This paper seeks relevant Indonesian law and regulations, both at the national and
national levels, that cover the issue of religious tourism. It is legal research that focuses
on relevant laws and regulations at the national and local levels in Indonesia that cover
the issue of religious tourism. The research found that the term, concept, and practice
of religious tourism have been developed from some related activities e.g spiritual
tourism, pilgrimage, faith tourism or faith-based tourism, muslim-friendly tourism,
halal tourism, and shari’a tourism. In a normative sense, Indonesian national and local
law and regulations have acknowledged religious tourism as a type of tourism. The
establishment of official technical guidance of religious tourism would ensure the
proper implementation of religious tourism in Indonesia.
