Installation TheInstallation wizard offers the following options: Wizard Installation Description Type Client All files are installed on the client workstation. install/Citrix LANServer Createsamasterinstallation ofall files on a common file server. install SQLNavigatorisnotconfigured foruse on the workstation performing the installation LANClient Createsprogramshortcutsand registryentries referring to the LAN Server install installation. Executable files are not installed locally. SQLNavigator7.4 1 InstallationNotes Install If a previous installation of SQL Navigator 4.x or above is detected, its location will be pre- Directory selected by default For LAN Clientinstallations,browse to the network resource containing the LAN Server installation. Server side installation Server-side configuration is not required for general operation of SQL Navigator.It is required for operation of the Explain Plan Tool.The PL/SQL Profiler and Java->PL/SQL Publisher requires server-side support,which is installed on demand. YoucaninvoketheServer-Side Installation Wizard from the Tools menu.The wizard requires connection as a DBAusersothattheSQLNAVusercanbecreated,aswellasanumberofroles.Thewizardpermitsyouto specify a password ofyour choice for this user.Note thatthe option "Base SQLNAV Repository"mustbe selected on atleastone occasion to allow the other supportfeatures to be installed.All objects installed by the wizard are installed into the SQLNAV schema. Toinstall support for Explain Plan TosaveSQLstatementsintheExplainPlantool,a special table isrequired in the SQLNAVschema. Follow these steps: 1. StartSQL Navigator. 2. Click Tools |Server-Side InstallationWizard. 3. SelectInstallServer-Side Objects |Next. 4. Ensure that"Base SQLNAVRepository"and "Explain Plan Support"are selected.ClickNext. 5. Entera username (DBAuser,such asSYS),password and connection.ClickConnect. 6. Chooseatablespaceforthe objectsto be created in the SQLNAVschema.ClickNext. 7. Entera password for the SQLNAVuser.Enteritagain in the confirmation box.Click Next. 8. Performoneofthe following: l Click Install | Next. l AsaDBAuser,runthescriptCRTUSER.SQLlocatedintheinstallfolderunderthe SQL Navigator installation folder (C:\Program Files\Quest Software\SQL Navigator for Oracle by default) to create the SQLNAV schema. 9. AsuserSQLNAV,runthescriptCRTSQLTB.SQLtocreatetheSavedSQL'stable. Server side support ThePL/SQLProfilerand Java->PL/SQL Publisherrequiresserver-side support,which isinstalled on demand. SQLNavigator7.4 2 InstallationNotes Toinstall support for PL/SQL Profiler ThePL/SQLProfiler(Oracle 8.1.6 and above) requires server-side supportprovided by Oracle. Follow these steps: 1. Install Oracle's DBMS_PROFILER package asthe SYSuser. 2. Tocollectstatistics,grantusers SELECTprivilege on the following system views: V$SESSION V$SESSTAT V$STATNAME Toinstall SQL Navigator-specific support for a single schema 1. StartSQL Navigator. 2. Connectto the instance containing objects you wish to profile. 3. UseDB Navigatorto selecta stored programto profile. 4. Execute.(Click Session|Execute orpressF9) 5. Progressthrough execution wizard,selecting "Enable Profiling"on the profiling tab. 6. Performoneofthe following: l Whenpromptedtoinstall Profiler support,click Yes. l Connected asuserforschema containing objectsyou wish to profile,run the scriptPROF_ INSTALL.SQL TIP: You can also install a central set of tables for storage of Profiler data, however this is not recommended,asthesetablesmaygrowquitelarge.Toinstall,follow the stepsabove to install into any schema,then (connected asthatuser)run the scriptPROF_GLOBAL_INSTALL.SQL. Toinstall support for Java Publisher Topublish a Java class to PL/SQL the following are required in the user's schema: l AJavaclass(com/quest/sqlnav/reflector) l AnOraclepackage(SQLN_JAVA) Theseobjectsare installed on demand in a similar manner to the Profiler objects. NOTE:TopublishaJavaclasslocatedinadifferentschema: l The'publisher'user requires execute privilege on the class. l Thepublicsynonymmustbecreatedforthatclass. Recommendedconfiguration for PL/SQL Debugger Oracle for Windows version 7.3.4 or higher SQL*Net32-bitto connectto the database SQLNavigator7.4 3 InstallationNotes Refer also to the online help for details about Oracle support for the SQL Navigator Debugger. Recommendedconfiguration for Oracle Web Developmentsupport Install Oracle Web Toolkit version 2 or higher on database. Citrix Presentation Server installation notes Toinstall SQL Navigator on a Citrix machine 1. Connectto the Citrix environmentas an administrator. 2. If required, copy the applications to be installed to the Citrix machine. 3. Before installation, open a command line and execute:change user /install 4. Using WindowsControlPanel|ProgramsandFeatures,install SQL Navigatorwith installation type of PCinstall. NOTE:TheCitrixAdministratorwill have to install the application on every machine in the Citrix farm.However,the application only needs to be published once. 5. Whensetupiscomplete,verifythe installation. l LaunchSQLNavigator l If installed, also launch Knowledge XPert/SQL Optimizer. Working with TNS Names Toenableall databasesdefined in tnsnames.ora to be available to all users in the Citrix environment,use the TNS_ADMINenvironmentvariableoneachmachinewhereSQLNavigatorispublishedtopointtothelocation of the TNSNames.ora file. Product licensing SQLNavigatorissupplied with a time-limited trial key so you may testthe product. Toactivate a purchased commercial license 1. StartSQL Navigator 2. Click Tools |Product Authorization. 3. Enterthe Authorizationkey. NOTE:TheWindowsuserthatlicensesSQLNavigatorrequirescertain write-accessprivilegesand therefore mustbe a memberofeitherthe Administrators group within Windows,or have equivalent privileges.
