POTASSIUM CONTAINING INTRAVENOUS INFUSIONS AVAILABLE FROM
PHARMACY
The following is a list of licensed intravenous infusions containing potassium
which should be used whenever intravenous potassium has to be administered.
The bags may be kept as stock on wards or ordered specifically for individual
patients from the Pharmacy.
10 millimoles Potassium in 500ml Bags (equivalent to 20mmol in 1 litre)
Glucose 10% + Potassium Chloride 0.15% 500ml
20 millimoles Potassium in 1 litre Bags
Sodium Chloride 0.9% + Potassium Chloride 0.15% 1 litre
Glucose 5% + Potassium Chloride 0.15% 1 litre
Glucose 4%, Sodium Chloride 0.18% + Potassium Chloride 0.15% 1 litre
20 millimoles Potassium in 500ml Bags (equivalent to 40mmol in 1 litre)
Sodium Chloride 0.9% + Potassium Chloride 0.3% 500ml
Glucose 5%, Sodium Chloride 0.45% + Potassium Chloride 0.3% 500ml
Glucose 5%, Sodium Chloride 0.9% + Potassium Chloride 0.3% 500ml
Glucose 10% + Potassium Chloride 0.3% 500ml
40 millimoles Potassium in 1 litre Bags
Sodium Chloride 0.9% + Potassium Chloride 0.3% 1 litre
Glucose 5% + Potassium Chloride 0.3% 1 litre
Glucose 4%, Sodium Chloride 0.18% + Potassium Chloride 0.3% 1 litre
40 millimoles Potassium in 500ml bags (equivalent to 80mmol in 1 litre)
Sodium Chloride 0.9 % + Potassium Chloride 0.6% 500ml
Glucose 5% + Potassium Chloride 0.6% 500ml
Unlicensed Infusions containing Potassium
The following unlicensed product is also available, although supply cannot
always be guaranteed. Please note that this is a concentrated solution and
should be reserved for central line use only.
Sodium Chloride 0.9 % + Potassium Chloride 3% 100ml
(containing 40 mmol potassium in 100ml (400 mmol per litre))
