Public Libraries to offer a Community Read of Just Mercy by Bryan Stevenson Jan 15 - March 15, 2021 In cooperation with the Town of Bedford, area libraries in Katonah, Bedford Hills, Bedford Village, Pound Ridge, and Mount Kisco are encouraging residents of all ages to join in a Community Read of Just Mercy by Bryan Stevenson. A Community Read is an open reading experience that engages people within a region to join together as neighbors focused on a single book. Adults and teens within the Bedford Central School District and Katonah are invited to participate Just Mercy is a powerful true story by Bryan Stevenson -- one of the most brilliant and influential lawyers of our time. As founder of the Equal Justice Initiative in Montgomery, Alabama (where he also established the Legacy Museum and the National Memorial for Peace and Justice), Stevenson recounts his early days as a young lawyer working to protect basic human rights for the most vulnerable people in American society--the poor, the wrongly convicted, and those whose lives have been marked by discrimination and marginalization. His memoir is a clarion call to fix our broken system of justice and an inspiring story that champions compassion in the pursuit of true justice for all. Please contact one of our participating libraries to obtain a copy of the book, which is also available in a Young Adult version. You may also be interested in reserving the 2019 film of the same title, available on DVD, which is also available free on the Equal Justice Initiative website. Participating libraries include: Bedford Hills Free Library, Bedford Free Library, Katonah Village Library, Mount Kisco Public Library, and Pound Ridge Library. Please place a hold on the book or contact one of our libraries to obtain a copy. For more information, please contact your local library or: Mary Esbjornson, Executive Director, Bedford Hills Free Library (914) 666-6472 or mesbjornson@wlsmail.org.
