Developing an on-line version of the UK Diabetes and Diet Questionnaire
         Key Words: Diabetes, Diet, On-line
Lead: Ashley Cooper and Clare England
         Abstract
         Background
The UK Diabetes and Diet Questionnaire (UKDDQ) is a reliable and validated dietary assessment
tool for use with people with and at risk of obesity, type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease
(England et al, 2016). It can be used as a short food frequency questionnaire to assess diet but also
has the potential to be used to guide dietary advice. The questionnaire exists as a PDF document
which can be freely downloaded and printed, but increasingly researchers, health professionals
and patients are using on-line tools. It is felt that having an on-line version of the UKDDQ that can
be made available to health professionals, patients and researchers would increase the impact of
the UKDDQ in clinical and research practice.
         Aims & Objectives
         The proposed project aims to:
Develop an on-line version of the UKDDQ, hosted by the University of Bristol

         Method
The UKDDQ will be developed as a web platform, attached to a database and hosted by the
University of Bristol (hosting should be free). It will initially be developed as a simple quiz that
provides dietary guidance based upon the answers given and will be freely accessable without
need for a log-in. At this stage all data collected will be anonymous.
The platform will developed so that it can be edited by an administrator (Clare England), in case
there is a need to change questions, response options or the advice given. In future there would
be the possibility of development of a version that requires a log-in for access and allows for the
collection of data from research participants.
         Outcome measures
A successful web version of the UKDDQ
The NIHR Biomedical Research Unit at the University of Bristol and the University Hospitals Bristol
NHS Foundation Trust in Nutrition, Diet and Lifestyle.
