Healthy Lives, Healthy Futures (HLHF) Biggest Loser Challenge Participant Information Sheet What is the Biggest Loser Challenge (BL)? The BL challenge is a 15-week motivational program to help you improve your health. BL is not a prescription diet plan or quick fix, rather it is focused on helping you make small behavior changes such as eating a piece of fruit and walking daily. Regular exercise and at least five servings of fruits and vegetables per day are proven weight loss methods. Who can participate? EVERYONE and ANYONE over the age of 16. How does the program work? The program requires that each registered participant complete the following: Participate in the first supervised weigh-in Participate in at least one supervised weekly weigh in before the final weigh-in Participate in the final supervised weigh-in The more weekly weigh-ins you attend, the greater your chances of losing weight, so make an effort to attend more than one weekly-weigh in. There are other optional activities you can participate in that will help you increase your physical activity and eat better. See reverse side of this sheet. Supervised Weigh-In Dates/Times: First Supervised Weigh-In: Weekly Supervised Weigh-Ins: Last Supervised Weigh-In: FREE Optional Activities: In addition to supervised weigh-ins, you have the opportunity to participate in the following FREE activities to help you adopt a healthier lifestyle. Weekly exercise classes at the church and other participating Healthy Lives Healthy Futures churches. 15-week Eat Smart Move More (ESMM) Weigh Less Educational Program (see ESMM flyer). We also encourage you to adopt a regular walking regimen. Start with two days per week for 15 minutes and add 10 minutes each week until you reach 150 minutes per week (i.e. 5 days 30 minutes). Walk with a friend or put on some good music to help you stay motivated. Prizes First off, you will win the gift of better health! Losing just 10% of your body weight can have a significant and very positive impact on your health, such as reducing your risk of diabetes and heart disease. The HLHF program will offer the following prizes: 1. The top four individuals with the most weight lost among all participating churches will win a $50 gift card to Target. 2. The church with the highest percentage of weight lost will receive a $200 check to be used toward health and wellness activities. 3. The church with the most weight lost will receive a $200 check to be used toward health and wellness activities. *winners announced on April 30th.
