You can buy the textbook online either at Wiley, or Amazon, etc. There is additional material if you choose to buy WileyPlus rather than just the textbook. If you purchase WileyPlus, you get the textbook (online) as well as additional information, videos, etc. It is not a requirement, however, that you purchase WileyPlus, but I do highly recommend it. To purchase WileyPlus for this course, information is found on the last page of this syllabus. Again, you can also just purchase the textbook, without the additional online information. POLL EVERYWHERE This class will use poll everywhere for interactive quizzes during class. Information for registering for Poll Everywhere is provided on page 6 of this syllabus. PEERWISE For this course, we will use PeerWise in order for you to create and practice taking exam questions. As an incentive, if you contribute 3 questions to the PeerWise bank, and answer a minimum of 10 questions (and provide feedback) prior to each exam, including the final, I will add an extra 6 points to your final exam. If you don't want or don't need the extra points, you don't have to participate, but I think it will be helpful to you for preparing for the exams. Questions/answers/feedback must be submitted 48 hours before any exam in order to be eligible for the extra points. Register to use peerwise by going to http://peerwise.cs.auckland.ac.nz/ and then typing University of North Carolina and follow the registration instructions. Use your PID number as the identifier. The course is listed as NUTR 240 2016 and the course ID number is 13663. Here is a student guide, should you need more information: http://peerwise.cs.auckland.ac.nz/docs/students/ In addition, if I see some really good questions, they might end up on the final exam. If you have any difficulties, let me know. GRADING There will be 2 in class exams (20% each) and a final exam (40%). The final exam is cumulative. Attendance, completing assignments and class participation in discussion groups will all average together for 20% of your grade. Grading Scale for Final Course Grade Score Grade 93-100 A 90-92 A- 87-89 B+ 83-86 B 80-82 B- 74-79 C+ 66-73 C 60-65 C- 50-59 D <50 F When the Final Grade averages are calculated, all fractional points are rounded to the nearest integer grade (from two decimal places).
