It is open to all master and Ph.D. students. CONCENTRATION AREA: Economic Theory. STUDY PLAN Course Microeconomic Theory I This is the first course of the microeconomic sequence. It will cover consumer theory, production theory, choice under uncertainty and basic elements of monotone comparative statics. The text book is MWG (1995) and we will cover chapters 1-6. This course will be more formal than the typical undergraduate microeconomic courses. The student should be able to understand formal language and use it to communicate. There will be weekly problem sets, which will count for 5% of the grade. The first exam counts for 45% and the final for 50%. GOALS Study the consumer´s demand, the consumer´s choice under risk, the expected utility, the aggregation of the consumer´s demand and the firm´s behavior in competitive markets.
