Journey to the River Sea
by Eva Ibbotson
Book Review
This book is about a girl named Maia. When Maia was very young, her
parents died in a train crash in Egypt. Maia goes to a school where girls
get taught to be ladylike. After a few years of looking, some people have
found Maia’s relatives in the Amazon. Maia goes to the Amazon to go
and stay with her family. However, Maia finds out that the Carters [her
family] are selfish people that only keep Maia for her money. Maia never
ends up being inside; she just wants to go out and explore.
I hated all the Carters because the more you read the book the worse
they get. Mr Carter is a selfish old man that only cares about himself and
not his family. Mrs Carter just wants everything perfect and does not
take into consideration that other people are on the Earth. The twins just
care about looking pretty. They also take advantage of other people's
things. I like Miss Minton because at first she seems selfish and strict.
However, Miss Minton will tell lies to make Maia happy because she can
see that the Carters are horrible people.
In my opinion, this is a good book because it's not predictable what is
going to happen so this makes me want to read on more.
I recommend this book to age 8-11 year olds because the book is not
hard to read and it is very enjoyable to read.
I hope you enjoy this book.
