Keywords: COMPETENCE BASED CURRICULUM (CBC) Teaching learning process in Indonesia was based on a certain curriculum, which was developed by the minister of education and culture. One of curriculums that were applied was Competence- based Curriculum. This curriculum was given to the students in order to develop their creativity after the teacher gave them the materials. There were publishers stated that their book was published based on Competence-based Curriculum, in fact the content and evaluation were not based on the Competence-based Curriculum. It was the reason, why the researcher was interested to analyze the two textbooks that were published by Penerbit Erlangga and PT. Intan Pariwara. This research was designed to obtain the answer whether the two textbooks were relevant to the Competence-based curriculum in term of contents and evaluations. This research used a descriptive analysis method because it was concerned the analysis of the content and evaluation of the two textbooks. The sample of this research was all the materials of the SMU English textbooks for the first year published by Penerbit Erlangga and PT. Intan Pariwara. The purpose of using the sample was to obtain the detailed information from the two textbooks that were related to the Competence-based Curriculum. The result of this research shows that the two textbooks already presented materials based on Competence-based Curriculum, but “Bahasa Inggris I” more highly related to the Competence- based Curriculum than “Headlight”, because the principle of English lesson was presented based on the situation of target culture and student’s culture.
