Its reputation for quality is based on excellence in teaching, research and service to Korean society. Based in Seoul, South Korea, the campus covers over 182 acres and has 33,000 students from all over the world. It is one of the most beautiful campuses in Korea. It has 81 departments in 18 colleges and divisions. Website: http://www.korea.edu/ https://gsc.korea.ac.kr/usr/exchange/exchange_program.do What to expect Application process If you are allocated for an exchange at Korea, you will be officially nominated by the Go Abroad Office and will then be provided with your detailed application instructions. You can ONLY apply if officially nominated. Academics Course/ credit load The link below contains information about courses/credit load you are required to take while on exchange: https://www.ed.ac.uk/global/exchanges/academic- matters Notes of Guidance for Exchange students Korea University Courses available KU offers many courses in English in various disciplines at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels, and the number is increasing every year. Please note that it is not guaranteed that the same courses are offered every year but normally there are only minor changes. It is important that you ensure that your intended courses will be offered in your registered semester. The list of courses offered in English will is updated and available for you to check online in January for spring semester and in July for fall semester on (http://sugang.korea.ac.kr > English > Major Subject (or General Subject)). For further details, please check the Campus Life > Academics > Courses Courses conducted in English will indicate in brackets, English. Please move the scroll bar so that you can see what courses are open to students. Courses marked under ‘X’ are open to exchange students. Course lists for the upcoming year will be published in July. Credit-bearing Korean language courses are offered during the regular semesters. There are 6 different levels from beginner to advanced. For those who wish to take Korean language classes, no prior knowledge of the Korean language is required but the placement test is mandatory. It will be held on the first day of the class. Korea recommends that students refer to the course list from the previous year. For example if you are going in fall 2019 you could refer to the fall 2018 course list. There may be small changes but they are likely to remain the same. Course enrolment Incoming advisors will contact students by email about the guidelines for the online course registration process. Academic restrictions There is high demand for some areas of the course. Especially in business and management. This means students must be aware that it may be very difficult to register for business and management courses of their first choices and that there will be no guarantee for their preferred choices. Subjects not available to exchange students: medicine, nursing, law, information security and ALL graduate programs at the business school. Your final course selection must be agreed and approved with your Exchange Coordinator and any course changes made whilst you are away must have their approval. 2 These guidance notes were correct at the time of publishing. Nearly all are shared rooms. https://reslife.korea.ac.kr:5008/v1/index.html Application process Students are advised to apply as soon as the online application is open as rooms as allocated on a first come first serve basis. The application will be done online. Prior to applying for accommodation, students will have received the KU admission letter with individual KU ID number necessary for the online housing application. Please note that if you are staying 2 semesters you may need to reapply for accommodation between the semesters. Private accommodation There is a wide range of off campus accommodation available near campus within 5-10 mins walking distance. Most of the rooms are small but are ensuite. Subject to change. Insurance All the international students are required to have their private insurance that covers their whole stay in Korea prior to beginning their studies at KU. It is now required by the Korean Ministry of Education that ALL incoming international students are covered by private health/medical insurance during their stay in Korea. Those who do not submit a copy will NOT be allowed to register for courses at KU and we will not be responsible for the consequences. You will receive further information when applying. Other Employment A student holding a D-2 visa who has completed the first semester of more than 6 months at the university will be entitled to apply for part-time work up to 20 hours per week on the condition that they work in the areas permitted by the Minister of Justice. Orientation There is a Mandatory Orientation for Commencing Exchange students. This is the same week as course registration. There will be free meet-and-greet service for students living in KU halls of residence, and who are attending the international orientation program. If students wish to be met at Incheon international airport and taken to their hall of residence, they MUST submit the ONLINE Airport pick-up service form (http://oia.korea.ac.kr-> Board> Request). Please note that the airport meeting service operates at Incheon international airport only and is available only for flights that arrive before 9pm. The bus to Korea University will depart every two hours from 8am until 10pmduring the two days. Students may have to wait at the airport until other incoming students arrive. The approximate travelling time from the airport to halls is normally 1.5 to 2 hours. Visas https://gsc.korea.ac.kr/usr/exchange/visa.do All international incoming students coming to study at KU must apply for a D-2 student visa. When you receive the admission package, the CoA (Certificate of Admission) will be included together with the Letter of Admission. You can apply for the student visa at the Korean Embassy or Korean consulates in your home country (or for those who have Chinese nationality in the country where their home institution is located) by submitting the CoA: You will need a certificate of admission, a copy of the exchange agreement between us and Korea university and a certificate of registration to apply for your visa. http://korea.embassyhomepage.com/ Disability Statement Some destinations may be more accessible than others for disabled students.
