                   Preface
        The articles contained in this book are the final assignments 
       of the fifth semester students of Sociolinguistics class, Faculty 
       of Arts, Udayana University. The articles are classified into 
       a number of topics, namely the Pidgin, Language Variaties, 
       Code Switching,  Language Function, Language and Gender, 
       and Politeness. The topics were raised as linguistic phenom-
       ena that are often encountered in daily interactions and phe-
       nomenon in mass media as well such as in the movies on tele-
       vision and  youtube, magazines and fiction in the form of the 
       novel as well. The articles are created as a preliminary step to 
       create a further articles which need to be developed by stu-
       dents as part of the process of teaching and learning, so that,  
       many flaws in this book are still here and there which escape 
       from our observation. Finally, we do appreciate the hard ef-
       fort of the students as contributors and the editors with their 
       hard work to give suggestion. Our great expectation is that 
       this book can be helpful in studying phenomena related lin-
       guistic communities where the language is used.
