     Dear WestJEM Colleagues,
The Western Journal of Emergency Medicine: Integrating Emergency Care with Population Health (WestJEM) is
proud to announce a dramatic increase of our journal’s Impact Factor.
Our Clarivate two-year Impact Factor for 2021 is now 3.985, which is a 63% increase over 2.453 last year and
1.807 for 2019. This places us 5th (of 32 titles in Science Citation Index Expanded) among general EM journals
worldwide (excluding dedicated trauma, burn, resuscitation, and surgery journals). The support of our sponsors,
The American College of Osteopathic Emergency Physicians, California chapter of the American College of
Emergency Physicians, California Chapter Division of the American Academy of Emergency Medicine, and the
Department of Emergency Medicine at UC Irvine, has allowed the journal to develop and flourish over the past 15
years. In addition, we have some 70 academic departments of emergency medicine that support the journal
financially, as well as contributing substantial scholarship from their faculties, residents, and fellows.
The two-year impact factor, calculated by Clarivate (formerly Thomson-Reuters) is based on the number of
citations of WestJEM papers published in 2019 and 2020 that were cited in other journals in 2021. That means that
there were 3.985 citations, on average per paper in 2021 of papers published in WestJEM in the past two years.
Below we list the top 5 cited papers that contributed to our improved Impact Factor. Congratulations and thank you
to these authors for their hard work!
     Best regards,
     Mark
